George Washington was born here on February 22, 1732, on his father's Popes Creek tobacco plantation. The National Park Service operates a working colonial farm with costumed interpreters recreating 18th-century plantation life. Visitors can tour the Memorial House (built 1931 near the original site), colonial kitchen, spinning shop, barn, and Washington family burial ground — which holds the graves of 32 Washington family members. A 15-minute film plays at the Visitor Center.
Listed hours can change. Check with the business before travelling.
