James Madison — the 4th President and 'Father of the Constitution' — was born here on March 16, 1751 at the plantation his grandparents owned on the banks of the Rappahannock. The current 1791 mansion sits on the original site, now operating as a bed & breakfast, tea house, and event venue. Guided mansion-and-grounds tours run April–November (Wed–Sun 1–4pm, last tour 3pm) and daily through December for the Holiday House. Reservations recommended. The James Madison Belle Grove Foundation also hosts the annual Spirits Festival and the Red, White and Bluegrass Festival.
