While primarily a state park, the fossil beach along the Potomac River cliffs is one of the most accessible fossil-hunting sites in the eastern U.S. Visitors regularly find shark teeth, whale bones, and other Miocene-era marine fossils eroding out of the 100-foot cliffs. The cliffs have yielded everything from individual teeth to the complete skull of a prehistoric sperm whale. Free to keep what you find!
